Notes

I use this page to collect notes on books I’ve read, video’s I’ve watched, and sites that I’ve found interesting. YMMV, absolutely no guarantee you’ll find any of this interesting or useful! 🙂

Daily Fantasy Sports

I started playing DFS football (NFL) during the 2014 season, I don’t think I cashed in any contests. FanDuel and DraftKings are the primary sites in this market, NFL is the primary sport that people play. I’ve done a lot of research on DFS and publish it all over at DFS Lineup Optimizer Reviews. It’s more of a hobby now than a real thing for me, I don’t have the patience or bankroll to take DFS seriously.

For those looking for some good books on DFS, I recommend the following:

Health

When I turned 50, I decided it was time to start checking up on my health status. I’ve not really been one to go to the doctor that often, and should probably go more than I do. Either way, it turns out that sitting at a desk for 20 years and not doing anything but working and worrying about work can make you fat and angry. My blood pressure was through the roof so I went on low dose blood pressure meds. I was determined to get off the damn things ASAP, so I started walking, then jogging, then lifting weights. I’m down about 20 pounds and my blood pressure is down as well. The image below is a screen capture of my phone showing my blood pressure from February 2018 to June 2018, downward trend is impressive.

My blood pressure readings, early 2018

I also started eating differently in March 2018. The weightlifting and changes to diet are a result of reading Man 2.0 Engineering the Alpha: A Real World Guide to an Unreal Life: Build More Muscle, Burn More Fat, Have More Sex by John Romaniello and Adam Bornstein.

Campers, RV’s and Travel Trailers

My wife and I just bought a Grand Design Imagine 3170BH in June 2018 and are really looking forward to taking the family out for some adventures. The camper is actually a little bigger than I wanted, but I’m the Dad so I only get half a vote. Anyway, the upside is that we have plenty of room for the kids and their friends.

I did a lot of research on various topics prior to the actual purchase of our camper such as: Travel Trailer vs Class C vs Class A, RV construction, RV’s with the best consumer reviews, etc. Once we decided for sure that we were going to buy a travel trailer, I started pulling together a bunch of trailer specific videos. A few of the most useful are listed below.

Backing A Travel Trailer

I think backing up is the ONE thing that freaks people out the most when they are thinking about buying a TT vs a Class C or A. I’ll admit that it was a concern, it is a little intimidating, and I still worry when backing up. So given that, I never back up without a ground guide, we use walkie talkies to communicate, and I just take it slow. There’s no rushing this process. Safety is the #1 priority when backing up your camper.
